CALL FOR WORKSHOPS AND SCIENTIFIC VISITORS

******************************************************************************

INTRODUCTION

Eurandom is the workshop and visitor center of the Stochastic Section of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Sciences, Eindhoven University of Technology.

In its 15+ year lifespan, Eurandom organized some 150 workshops in Stochastics and its Applications. Many top researchers have participated in these workshops, often with very effective outcome. One aim is to facilitate junior and senior researchers to collaborate and help their work along. This can be achieved in workshops of two formats: small workshops of 2-3 days and larger workshops of 5 days.

We further organize Stochastic Activity Months (SAM), a thematic month of activities: including workshops, seminars, mini courses and long stay visitors.

The visitors program is an attractive concept to invite researchers from all over the world to come and work in Eindhoven for an extended stay. This can be for some weeks or even months. Collaboration with the staff of the Department and with other universities in the Netherlands is highly appreciated. These universities are all within easy reach from Eindhoven.

Funding for these activities comes from Eurandom itself, together with available other sources. Together with the organizers of the workshop we usually succeed in getting sufficient funding.

Eurandom has a conference room with capacity of 65-70 people, a registration desk,  a lounge with coffee and lunch facilities, a small library, and offices that can be used by visitors.  The University library is available to workshop participants and is located in the same building as the workshop center. Free Wi-Fi is available on campus.

CALL

We invite you to submit ideas for a workshop or a scientific visit. Procedures are as follows:

INFORMATION FOR ORGANIZERS OF A WORKSHOP

Researchers can apply at Eurandom for organizing a workshop in the area of stochastic operations and/or  interplay with the related fields.

The scientific organization of the workshop is left to the scientific organizers, while Eurandom takes care of the practical organization of the workshop and supports the organizers in planning, attracting, funding and operational aspects. In particular the workshop coordinator sends out invitations, on behalf of the organizers, to invite those interested to register, makes the hotel reservations, keeps the participants informed etc.

**Application

Interested in organizing a workshop? Then you should submit a short proposal.

We expect a workshop proposal to be submitted between a half year and one and a half year prior to the planned date of the workshop.

Workshop proposals are submitted for evaluation by the scientific advisory board with two deadlines per year: April 15, October 15. Eurandom aims to decide on the workshop proposals within 2 weeks after the deadline.

Workshop proposals are evaluated primarily for their scientific merit. Applications with a given tie to the Dutch Stochastic community and/or the research programs at Eurandom are particularly encouraged.

Funding of workshops by Eurandom depends on the scientific quality, the expected impact of the workshop as well as its duration and the expected number of participants. Indicative amounts are 5k for short workshops and 10k for one week events.

**Practical organization

After approval of the proposal, the scientific organizer(s) will be invited to proceed with the organization of the workshop: finalizing the program, the invitees, registration and the webpage.  The Eurandom workshop officer can assist with these procedures.
